Delilah Bon’s new album is a timely feminist manifesto for the ages.
Evil, Hate Filled Female, the new album from feminist punker is a hardcore female empowerment rock album. Delilah Bon on her new album rips into the toxicity of internet and bro culture and constructs her album to not only be a protest of the times, but also one of sisterhood.
The album contains timely and compelling songs such as the title song Evil, Hate Filled Female which fights against the toxic stereotypes of strong, empowered women. The song acts as a call to arms for women to stand together, no matter how backwards and regressive society has become.
The song is angry, and rightly so with lyrics such as “I’m here to incite violence against men”. And while the lyrics may seem shocking to some, she’s taking back the power of women in these male dominated days and refusing to succumb to misogyny and patriarchy.
Freak Alert may be the most important song on the album in in which Bon recounts sexual harassment and public humiliation men cause. Bon in the song refuses to stay silent on sexual harassment, and recounts her own experiences, as well as telling women “You don’t have to put up with it!”. The song is powerful and emotive as it paints the uncomfortable reality of sexual harassment and the lack of voice many women feel.
Other songs act as protest songs with lyrics such as cutting off cocks of men who give unwanted advances, and freeing cows from slaughter. The songs are filled with humor, but beneath the surface Bon is angry, and using her songs as rallying cries to other women that “enough is enough”.
On this album, Delilah Bon has evolved into a sleek and strong feminist voice who uses her talent and bravery to fight against sexism and violence, and refuses to cower or back down. Evil, Hate Filled Female is incredibly powerful and timely, and many signal the beginning of a feminist and resistance.
