With the Dolly Vs Eve franchise continuing to flourish and take on new life, having won an accolade of awards and continuing to grow in popularity, just when you thought it was save to go outside, the master of the blade, Eve Valentine is back.
While film fans have witnessed the merciless slashings over the years, until now the backstory of this notorious masked killer has never been fully told, but thanks to County Durham film-maker Dean Midas, his latest film in the franchise allows us to really delve into Eve’s world. The question is, do you dare enter mwahahaha!
Without giving too much away, in this latest installment from the beginning we are taken back down memory lane to Chloe as a child. Playing around at the Manor Hotel with a childhood friend at the age of 9 years old, with darkness in the air, unknown to a young Chloe (played by Eliza Knowles) and her friend Cassie (played by Isabella Fantin), the spirit of Eve Valentine is lurking in the shadows in search of a new host to embody, giving rise to a new wave of mischief and terror in the shape of Chloe Scott..
If you have followed the other films, you will know that despite of being suspected of dying, and not being sighted for a while, there have nevertheless been rumors that our masked killer is closer than we think. With the scene set at the beginning of the film, we are then taken forward to the present day, to security at the grounds of Willington A.F.C checking the place after reports of a suspected break in.
Although requesting backup, our inpatient security decides to go investigating on her own, and if there is one lesson we all know by now is never underestimate the shadows, because it is like stepping into the lair of darkness. At this point, with the music adding suspense, my heart is racing as I shout at the screen - WAIT FOR BACKUP, DON’T GO IN. If curiosity doesn’t kill the cat, well the blade of Eve Valentine will show no mercy and well that's just what happens.
No story of Eve Valentine would be the same with a few familiar faces, and while the film had me jumping on the edge of my seat, with the extra eerie vibes, I was happy to see the return of the one and only Officer Reid (played by Jason Redman). Promoted to the rank of Sergeant, but no longer an active part of the Eve Valentine case, this still doesn’t stop people trying to bring the fears and warnings of this masked killer to his door.
Eve and Officer Reid have crossed paths many times over the years, both danced with death, yet up to now Officer Reid is also believed to be one of the very few people to not fall victim to the fatal blade, despite numerous close calls.
I won’t go in to much more detail about the rest of the film, because I have said too much already, plus I don't fancy Eve coming after me with her blade as pay back for giving away too many spoilers haha. So how the story continues to unfold is up to you to pursue and find out for yourself. What I can tell you however is that Dean Midas has really pushed the boundaries of creativity with attention to detail to every part of this latest film. Everything from the special effects, new techniques, a drop of imagination, the locations and businesses which feature in the film, and of course not forgetting the all important cast, everything has been so significant in bringing this narrative to life.
While this film is a nod of thanks and respect to the way that Sam Lavery took on the role of Eve Valentine for a good number of years, at the same time Dean has also left the doorway open to for the evolution of the character to continue, because whoever the next host may be, the wrath and killing spree of Eve Valentine is far from over. She may terrify and scare us, but Dean Midas has succeeded in leaving us hungry for more.
Not to be missed, take a step into the shadows and watch the latest film in the franchise today!
